Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump are set to meet on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, according to White House officials.
The meeting comes as Prime Minister Modi is on a six-day diplomatic tour of France and Slovakia from June 13 to 18, which includes high-level talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, participation in G7 outreach sessions, and his first-ever official visit to Slovakia since its independence.
During his visit to France, Modi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour upon arrival in Nice, where he will also attend the VivaTech summit and jointly inaugurate Bharat Innovates, an initiative aimed at connecting Indian startups with global investors under the India-France Year of Innovation.
Defence cooperation, trade, technology partnerships, global security, and energy challenges linked to the West Asia conflict are expected to dominate discussions during his engagements in France.
Modi will then travel to Slovakia for talks with President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico, focusing on strengthening India’s ties with the European Union and advancing negotiations on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
India has also been invited as an outreach partner at the G7 Summit, alongside countries including Brazil, Egypt, Kenya, and South Korea.
In his departure statement, Modi said India’s participation reflects growing global trust in the country and its role in representing the concerns of the Global South on major international platforms.
