Auckland: Lyricist and social worker Dr Ramila Adhikari has received another significant honour in the Nepali music industry. His song “Bacha Garaun” has won the Best Lyricist Award at the 7th Sagarmatha Music Awards.
The award was presented to Adhikari for “Wacha Garaun” at the award ceremony held at the National Dance Theatre in Kathmandu last Wednesday. The song features vocals by singer Sugam Pokharel and singer Anju Panta, with music composed by Gyanendra Giri.
According to Dr Adhikari, the Sagarmatha Music Award marks his third national-level award. He had previously received the Music Khabar Award and the National Rapti Music Award.
Adhikari has remained active in lyric writing, with songs including “Bindas Nachne Ho,” “Hamro Je Bhane Ni Timi,” and “Jiune Chahana” already released. His songs explore a range of emotions related to love, relationships and life.
Speaking to Himalpari, Adhikari said he received the news of the prestigious award after arriving in Cape Town, South Africa.
“Receiving the award news on the morning I arrived in Cape Town made the beginning of my day particularly special,” he said.
He said he considers the recognition not only a personal achievement but also a source of motivation for his continued journey in music.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, well-wishers and music lovers, he said their love, trust and encouragement had inspired him to continue pursuing creative work.
“This recognition has strengthened my passion for music and lyric writing. It has inspired me to continue creating, learning and giving my best,” Adhikari said.
Continuing His Musical Journey from Abroad
Dr Adhikari currently works in the health sector in New Zealand, while continuing his involvement in Nepali music and lyric writing from abroad. His creative works have received positive responses from Nepali music lovers.
Adhikari said the Sagarmatha Music Award, together with his previous recognitions, has provided additional motivation for his creative journey. He expressed gratitude to music lovers, colleagues and well-wishers for their continued support and encouragement.
The latest award represents another important milestone for Dr Adhikari, further strengthening his identity and contribution as a lyricist in the Nepali music industry.
