AUCKLAND: Preparations have been completed for Teej Mela 2026, organised by Hamro Ekata Incorporated, which is set to take place on Monday at Mahatma Gandhi Hall in Auckland.
According to Hamro Ekata Incorporated Secretary Kalpana Sapkota, all necessary preparations have been completed to ensure the event is held successfully and in a well-organised manner. The youth-led social organisation is organising the Teej Mela with the aim of promoting Nepali culture, traditions and community unity in New Zealand.
Popular Nepali folk singer Khem Century and singer Samikshya Adhikari have arrived in Auckland from Nepal to perform at the event. The organisers held a meet-and-greet programme in Auckland on Sunday evening to welcome and honour the visiting artists and thank the various organisations and individuals supporting the event.
The gathering was attended by people involved in various businesses, community representatives, local artists, as well as Khem Century and Samikshya Adhikari. Local artists also presented musical and cultural performances during the event.
Speaking at the programme, singer Khem Century said that following the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, they were not in a mood to celebrate or perform. However, they had decided to participate in the Teej Mela with the aim of supporting the victims and contributing to relief efforts.
He said even a small contribution could help families affected by the disaster and urged Nepalis living across New Zealand to participate in the event and support the relief efforts.
Former Nepali Honorary Consul in New Zealand Dinesh Khadka also urged the Nepali community in Auckland to attend the Teej Mela and contribute towards relief for those affected by the floods and landslides in Nepal.
As part of its preparations, Hamro Ekata has been regularly sharing information about the event through its official Facebook page. The organisation has also been personally reaching out to Nepali communities in Auckland and surrounding areas, encouraging them to attend the event with their families.
According to Hamro Ekata Incorporated President Saurav Basnet, this year's Teej Mela is being organised as a major celebration of Nepali culture, traditions, music and community unity.
He said the special musical performances by Khem Century and Samikshya Adhikari would provide Nepalis living abroad with an opportunity to enjoy Nepali music and reconnect with their cultural identity, even for a short time. He added that supporting families affected by the disaster in Nepal was also an important part of the event.
The event will be held from 6pm on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Mahatma Gandhi Hall. The organisers have announced that only a limited number of tickets remain.
General admission is NZ$25, while students can enter for NZ$20. Entry is free for children under 12.
The organisers have extended a collective invitation to the Nepali community in Auckland to attend the event with family, friends and relatives and celebrate the Teej festival together in a spirit of joy, culture and community solidarity.
