Auckland: A new leadership team has been announced for the New Zealand Nepal Society (NZNS) for the 2026–2028 term. However, confusion has emerged over the organization’s official leadership after two separate executive committees were announced on the same day.
One executive committee has been formed under the leadership of outgoing president Dr. Roshan Khadka. During his previous tenure, the committee led by Dr. Khadka organized various social and cultural events that received significant participation from the Nepali community in New Zealand. As a result, a large section of the community continues to recognize his leadership. However, another group has not accepted this leadership and has announced a separate executive committee.
Under Dr. Khadka’s leadership, Bishesh Khadka has been elected Vice President, Aactor Rai as Secretary, Sanam Roka as Joint Secretary, and Milan Rana as Treasurer. Sanjay Shanti Subedi and Nirman Neupane have been elected as Executive Members.
The newly elected committee has received congratulations and best wishes from various Nepali organizations, community leaders, and well-wishers. The new leadership has pledged to strengthen unity, cooperation, and social harmony among the Nepali community in New Zealand, promote Nepali language, culture, and traditions, and organize programs that connect younger generations with the community.
Meanwhile, another Annual General Meeting, reportedly held under the banner of the New Zealand Nepal Society on June 27, also announced a separate executive committee headed by Jharana Ghimire, according to information shared on social media.
In that committee, Sumana KC has been elected Vice President, Dipak Rijal Secretary, Alisha Poudel Joint Secretary, and Sunil Paudel Treasurer. Ajay Acharya, Anita Banjade, and Himal Binadi have been elected as Executive Members.
With two different executive committees being announced under the name of the same organization on the same date, some uncertainty has arisen within New Zealand’s Nepali community regarding the society’s official leadership.
The leadership dispute has reportedly existed since last year. Despite the division, many members of the community remain hopeful that both groups will eventually resolve their differences and reunite under a single leadership. Several respected members and community leaders in Auckland are also said to be working towards bringing the organization together.
